On 5 March 2025, WISE hosted the largest-ever online event devoted exclusively to examining upholding the ‘right to energy’ can transform the lives of women. With almost 250 people from 24 countries participating, the event

A plenary session featured three presentations, with volunteers translating across ~20 languages! The PowerPoint slides (in English) can be downloaded here:

During ~25 parallel break-out sessions in a variety of languages, participants had a chance to discuss energy vulnerability and women’s right to energy in their own language. Others break-out rooms (in English) dove into topics such as:

  • energy poverty among specific groups of women (e.g. migrant and minority groups, students, single mothers, elderly women).
  • challenges linked to the use of different energy sources (e.g. solid fuels, oil, gas and electricity).
  • policies and actions that can help or hinder (e.g. minimum use of energy, disconnection bans, and prepayment meters).
  • inclusive energy literacy, featuring ways to build energy knowledge and ‘know-how’ among women.

Watch the recording of the opening and closing plenary sessions. Shortly, WISE will upload highlights from the various break-out sessions.
