bde-rich-text breakdance-rich-text-styles\">\n<p>Available data (while sparse) suggest that, across the EU, rates of energy poverty are 3 to 4 times higher among households in which women alone manage resources \u2013 including energy<span class=\"fontstyle0\">. Often, this reflects how current economic and social systems fail to acknowledge or take account of their unique needs.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><div class=\"bde-column-18-235 bde-column\">\n  \n  \n\t\n\n\n\n<div class=\"bde-rich-text-18-236 bde-rich-text breakdance-rich-text-styles\">\n<p><strong>Women in Solidarity for Energy (WISE)<\/strong> aims to launch an EU-wide movement to better understand and meet the energy needs of the most vulnerable citizens.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/section><section class=\"bde-section-18-302 bde-section\">\n  \n  \n\t\n\n\n\n<div class=\"section-container\"><h2 class=\"bde-heading-18-303 bde-heading\">\nTargeting extreme rates of energy vulnerability<br>\n<\/h2><div class=\"bde-div-18-304 bde-div\">\n  \n  \n\t\n\n\n\n<div class=\"bde-div-18-305 bde-div\">\n  \n  \n\t\n\n\n\n<div class=\"bde-text-18-306 bde-text\">\nAgainst an EU average of 8-10% of households being in situations of energy vulnerability, among single women, the rates skyrocket. Estimates suggest that 31% of all single women cannot afford to keep their homes adequately comfortable or fall behind on paying energy bills.  Narrow the focus to single mothers and the share jumps to 44%.<br><br>When using the term \u2018single women\u2019, WISE recognises that it is less than ideal to capture \u2018who\u2019 these women are. women\n<\/h3><div class=\"bde-text-18-320 bde-text\">\nwho may still be living in a family home that far exceeds their current needs, with little knowledge of how to manage or maintain its energy systems. \n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><div class=\"bde-advancedslide-18-321 bde-advancedslide swiper-slide\">\n<div class=\"advanced-slider__slide\">\n  <h3 class=\"bde-heading-18-323 bde-heading\">\nMarginalised women\n<\/h3><div class=\"bde-text-18-324 bde-text\">\nin communities that have long been denied access to a wide range of basic services that underpin health and well-being.\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><div class=\"bde-advancedslide-18-325 bde-advancedslide swiper-slide\">\n<div class=\"advanced-slider__slide\">\n  <h3 class=\"bde-heading-18-327 bde-heading\">\nMigrant women\n<\/h3><div class=\"bde-text-18-328 bde-text\">\nwho are just discovering the reality of living in a cold climate and learning how to operate unfamiliar appliances and equipment. <br>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n    <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n\n              <div class=\"swiper-button-prev\">\n            \n        <\/div>\n        <div class=\"swiper-button-next\">\n            \n        <\/div>\n    \n    \n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div><div class=\"bde-code-block-18-355 bde-code-block\">\n\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><div class=\"bde-text-18-331 bde-text\">\nWISE href=\"https:\/\/wise-energy-solidarity.eu\/bg\/learn-more\/\">Learn More<\/a> contribute to the systemic injustices that undermine the health and well-being of single women and of their dependents. Most are complex and addressing them will require strategic and holistic action over the long term.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"bde-rich-text-18-271 bde-rich-text breakdance-rich-text-styles\">\n<p>Across 10 strategically planned <a href=\"https:\/\/wise-energy-solidarity.eu\/bg\/events\/\">events<\/a>, WISE <a href=\"https:\/\/wise-energy-solidarity.eu\/bg\/about\/\">Partners<\/a> aim to engage an ever-growing network of actors in the achievement of four overarching goals:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><div class=\"bde-div-18-289 bde-div\">\n  \n  \n\t\n\n\n\n<div class=\"bde-div-18-290 bde-div\" data-entrance=\"flipUp\">\n  \n  \n\t\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"bde-heading-18-291 bde-heading\">\nRaise awareness of the situation of single women\n<\/h3><div class=\"bde-text-18-292 bde-text\">\namong the general public and decision-makers.\n<\/div>\n<\/div><div class=\"bde-div-18-293 bde-div\" data-entrance=\"flipUp\">\n  \n  \n\t\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"bde-heading-18-294 bde-heading\">\nEducate single women\n<\/h3><div class=\"bde-text-18-295 bde-text\">\nabout energy in general and, more specifically, their energy rights.\n<\/div>\n<\/div><div class=\"bde-div-18-296 bde-div\" data-entrance=\"flipUp\">\n  \n  \n\t\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"bde-heading-18-297 bde-heading\" data-entrance=\"flipUp\">\nCo-develop solutions\n<\/h3><div class=\"bde-text-18-298 bde-text\">\nby engaging affected women and a wider range of relevant actors. \n<\/div>\n<\/div><div class=\"bde-div-18-299 bde-div\" data-entrance=\"flipDown\">\n  \n  \n\t\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"bde-heading-18-300 bde-heading\">\nEnable other groups\n<\/h3><div class=\"bde-text-18-301 bde-text\">\nto join the movement by making resources available in multiple languages.\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><div class=\"bde-rich-text-18-408 bde-rich-text breakdance-rich-text-styles\">\n<p>In its first four months, WISE drew more than 250 people from ~20 EU countries to its first two activities: a) creating WISE National Collectives to lead local action; and b) organising a Pan-European Conference.<\/p>\n<p>WISE anticipates a rapid multiplier effect as it advances collective action to make more resources available in diverse languages and then to raise awareness and deliver services to target women.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/section><section class=\"bde-section-18-273 bde-section\">\n              \n  \n  \n\t\n\n  <div class=\"section-background-overlay\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"section-container\"><h2 class=\"bde-heading-18-276 bde-heading\">\n\u2018Solidarity\u2019 as a central theme \n<\/h2><div class=\"bde-text-18-286 bde-text\">\nIn line with definitions proposed by the Community Energy for Energy Solidarity project and others, WISE considers energy solidarity to encompass:\u00a0\n<\/div><div class=\"bde-div-18-409 bde-div\">\n  \n  \n\t\n\n\n\n<div class=\"bde-rich-text-18-287 bde-rich-text breakdance-rich-text-styles\">\n<p><span class=\"fontstyle0\">Collective action by diverse individuals and\/or entities to overcome energy-related adversity as experienced by one or more parties.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"bde-rich-text-18-410 bde-rich-text breakdance-rich-text-styles\">\n<p><span class=\"fontstyle0\">Such actions should seek to enhance social justice while also building empathy for those whose lives are already constrained by systemic injustices.
